Wellbeing starts with safe and affordable housing.  A lack of safe affordable housing increases EMS calls, increases demand on our health care system, exacerbates mental illness, trauma and petty crime. Safe, affordable housing is the most significant investment we can make in the wellbeing and sustainability of our communities. Building affordable housing, including permanent supportive housing, creates jobs, saves money and saves lives. Taking care of our neighbours is the compassionate thing to do, and a smart investment. Over the past few years, City Council has taken a leadership role to build and provide housing directly and in collaboration with other housing providers. This work needs to be sustained while we also work with provincial and federal counterparts to make sure every Edmontonian has a safe home.
